Dr. Megan Michelle Lavado is a bilingual Licensed Clinical Psychologist who earned her doctorate degree from Albizu University with a specialization in Neuropsychology. During internship, she workedat West Gables Rehabilitation Hospital and evaluated adults and geriatric patients in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. She received further training at the Neurobehavioral Institute of Miami, specializing in neuropsychological and psychoeducational evaluations. Dr. Lavado completed her post-doctoral training at a private practice, where she specialized in neuropsychological, psychoeducational, psychological, and developmental evaluations. She is the co-author of the book: Minority and Cross-Cultural Aspects of Neuropsychological Assessment: Enduring and Emerging Trends. Dr. Lavado’s background also includes providing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) to children diagnosed with Autism.
Throughout her career, Dr. Lavado has enjoyed working with children, adolescents, adults and families. She is a trained evaluator in Cross-Battery Assessment, which is an evidence-based approach foridentifying Specific Learning Disorders (SLD). She has experience diagnosing a spectrum of disorders which include: Specific Learning Disorder (SLD), Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD), Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Intellectual Disability (InD), Disruptive Behavior Problems and Mood Disorders.

This evaluation is conducted to assess neurocognitive functioning when there are concerns related to overall reductions in cognitive functioning which can be a result of a head injury, medical condition, or a neurodevelopmental disorder. A neuropsychological evaluation measures specific areas of functioning such as intellectual functioning, language functioning, memory and learning, attention and concentration,visual spatial skills,executive functioning, and motor skills.
This evaluation is conducted for patients having academic difficulties. This evaluation also determines a patient's pattern of strengths and weakness, and identifies if a Specific Learning Disorder(SLD) or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)might be interfering with academic performance. This type of evaluation is also conducted to determine if a patient meets the qualifications for certain standardized testing accommodations (e.g. SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, MCAT, Bar Exam, and Medical Boards).
This evaluation is conducted when there is a concern related to the patient’s emotional, social, and/or behavioral functioning. This evaluation is used to assess Mood Disorders (such as Depression, Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Bipolar Disorder, etc.) or Disruptive Behavior Problems (such as Oppositional Defiant Disorder, Conduct Disorder, etc.).

The first step in the evaluation process is an interview with the parent or the adult being tested. Dr. Lavado will begin her evaluation by gathering information regarding the patient’sdevelopmental, psychiatric, medical, family, social, and educational history. Following the interview, Dr. Lavado selects target areas for testing administration. After the testing session is completed, each assessment is scored, analyzed and interpreted. Finally, a meeting is scheduled to discuss the results of the evaluation and to provide feedback with extensive recommendations such as educational strategies, accommodations,learning centers, and referrals to various specialists when necessary.
